Question #10

The first semester we delved into Ayn Rand's futuristic world and Homer's mythological kingdom. Now, we will embark into the realm of William Shakespeare.

Based on the A & E Biography and the background notes, which fact about William Shakespeare did you find the most interesting? Why?

If you lived at that time, would you have wanted William Shakespeare to be one of your friends? Why or why not?

Shakespeare, I'm sure, had an interesting life creating such plays and sonnets that has affected the world for all time. However, there is one fact I find most interesting. One of his most famous plays, Romeo and Juliet, is about two forbidden lovers. But he himself did not truly love his wife. I have wondered, How could he find such beautiful ways to describe love if he did not love the one woman who he has vowed to love. I always thought love could not be imagined or made up.
I would have loved to be Shakespeare's friend. I would love to have been apart of his plays, understand the eloquent way they communicated. But I'm sure no one would know his work would achieve such greatness.

Shakespeare was a very talented person. The fact that was most interesting to me about him was that he wrote so many plays in his lifetime.

If I lived during his time I think I would want him to be my friend. I believe he would have that type of personality that I like. He seemed like a very likeable person.

This quater, we dived into the interesting life of William Shakespeare. So far, we have recieved how he lived & how he took up his reign. We found out a lot of things, but the most interesting to me is not really fact. What interested me is that how he handled being a playwright & an actor.

If I could live in Shakespeare time, I would like to be a close friend of Shakespeare. I would because I'd get to get first hand knowledge of the best playwright of his time & ours. It would also be interesting to see what inspired him to take-up this career.

I agree with Stefanie on the fact of how did Shakespeare write so beautifully about love, when he himself didn't attain it.

Stacey said...

I am indifferent with what Gabriel said. With a man, that was intelligent way beyond his time. I doubt he would only like to be his friend because he seems "likeable"

Stacey said...

I disagree with Stefanie. Anyone who was intelligent enough would see that Shakespeare would make it far.

GabrielD said...

I agree with stefanie because I believe Shakespeare did have an interesting life.

GabrielD said...

I agree with Stacy because I would also like to know why he wanted to be a playwright and poet.

Shakespeare had a very interesting life. One of the facts about his life that is most interesting to me is the fact that he could become successful while doing something he loved. He was able to grow and develop as a play writer and actually be noticed for it. He was praised for his work while he was alive. He wasn't one of those people that became famous twenty years after their death and had to live poor miserable lives. Thats what i liked about Shakespeare.

I would have loved to be Shakespeare's friend. First of all, he was a very intelligent man. Second, he was very rich and powerful in his older years and if you were his friend, you had money and power as well. Third, he would have just been a great person to talk to. He was in touch with his emotions and could relate to whatever you were going through. Thats why i would want to be his friend.

RESPONSES:
1.I agree with stefanie on how she is amazed that a man who never loved his wife could make such beautiful love stories.
2. I agree with gabriel when he says Shakespeare was a very talented person.
3.I agree with Stacey when she says it would be interesting to be his friend to see what inspired him to take-up this career.

Shakespeare overall was a very interesting person. I think the fact that I found most interesting was his skill with words. If you ever read a Shakespeare play or poem, you'll see the technique he uses and how well he can communicate through stories. I think his writing was amazing.

If I lived in Shakespeare's time, I would have loved to be his friend. It would have been interesting to talk to him and get to know such a magnificent writer and poet. I would have liked the opportunity to be able to talk to him.

I'm very interested in William Shakespeare's writing. I'm most fascinated by how he affects so many people and how he can describe things so specifically. I love the way he describes everything because it's so detailed.

If I lived in his time,I would like to be his friend. I'd like to get to know him better and want to know what events inspired him to write his plays. I'd like to learn from him.

1. I agree with stefanie because I also wonder how he could describe love so beautifully when his marriage didn't really work out.
2. I agree with vicky. It's great that William Shakespeare became successful by doing something he loved. He worked really hard and he loved what he did.
3. I agree with Alexis when she says that she thinks his form of writing is amazing. I think this too because he is very detailed in everything he says. He fully describes everything in such an understandable way.

I think the most imteresting fact about William is that he rarely saw his family. Usually, families at the time were very together, but Will only saw them every once in a while. Another interesting fact is that William handled being both an actor, poet and a playwright. You can obviously say he was a really talented man.

If I lived in Shakespeare's time, I would want him to be one of my friends. The reason is because he's very creative and loves to write, like me. I love writing, and maybe if I were friends with Will, he could teach me a few pointers. He has an extraordinary talent!

Everything about William Shakespeare I find completely interesting. Especially with the fact that his plays invoked so much feeling into his audience. As a writer, whether a novelist, playwright or poet, that is all you could ever want from your writing. His life was so interesting and full and he got to do the one thing that he truly loved. To be able to do that and have the support of royalty is amazing.

I'm not exactly sure if I would want Shakespeare to be one of my friends. I'm sure he was a very interesting guy but normally writers are very moody people. For him to be a playwright, a poet, and an actor all rolled into one he must have been a very emotional and deep person. I would have loved to be his friend but it would be a friendship that would go through many ups and downs.

Elizabeth said...

I agree with Khriss when she says that she would love to get some pointers from William Shakespeare. I would love them too, I can really use them!

Elizabeth said...

I have a comment about Stefanie when she says that she doesn't know how Shakespeare wrote about love when he doesn't really know how it feels like. It is not impossible to write about love if you really go deep inside yourself and think. You just have to be in the right mood because all of us have love somewhere inside of us or we have seen it somewhere else.

Elizabeth said...

I don't agree with Gabriel when he says that Shakespeare was probably a likable person. Shakespeare probably acted nice most of the time but I picture him with this inner turmoil inside of him that he constantly reveals in his writing.

What i found most interesting was that William Skakespeare had a wife and family, and he never got to see them. When he fell in love with "Thomas Kent", he never told her the truth about himself. That was very interesting to me.
If i lived at that time, i would most definetly want to have William as a friend. I would love for him to share all his poetry and stories. I would also like to be a part of his plays.

MelissaA said...

I agree with Stefanie that William had one play, Romeo and Juliet. This play was about two forbidden lovers, but he himself didn't truly love his wife.

What I found most interesting about William Shakespeare is that he found all the time to write all those plays and sonnets. The good part of it that it keeps the audience wanting more of it. Sometimes when see so much of someone's work it gets kind of annoying.
If I lived back in the day, I would want Shakespeare to be one of my friends. Shakespeare is an inspirational person, and he is someone to look up to. He is open minded and has his own say.

I agree with GabrielD. Shakespeare was a very talent person who was know for a good playwright.

Stacy's reply is something that intersts me. I wonder how he can handled the pressure being a writer and an actor.

I finally agree with victoriaf. The reason why Shakespeare lived a good life because he was doing what he loved doing in his life.

I found William Shakespeare to be a very passionate human being. He was a man of great genius. I cant help but ponder on the calibur of his mind and how he was able to form so many sonnets and playwrights in his lifetime.
I would not mind being his friend speaking of him being so dramatic and passionate about life. I feel that if he was my friend, he would bring spice and flavor to any moment in time. He truly expresses any scenario with the most passion possible.

donw said...

I agree with StephaniG. I also share her outlook on William Shakespeare in the way that she also sees Shakespeare having a huge influence on the world forever through his playwrights and sonnets. I also believe that one of his most renown and popular plays is Romeo and Juliet.

donw said...

I agree with Gabrield. I also agree with him about Shakespeare being a very talented person. I also find that Shakespeare had a very likeable personality.

donw said...

I agree with Khriss. I found it very intriguing that while families during that time were very close, William Shakespeare and his family really did not have much of a relationship together. They hardly ever visited eachother.
I also find it astonishing how Shakespeare can be a poet, playwright, and an actor all at the same time. He will truly live on in history for many centuries to come.

Shakespeare must have lived quite an interesting life. Between being a playwright, a writer,an actor, and part owner of the Globe he must have always been busy. What I did appreciate and find interesting was that most of his plays were based on what he felt or what he had once experienced in his life.
Of course I would not only want Shakespeare as a friend but as my best friend! I would maybe have a sonnet written after been or even have been a main character in his plays. I would've been able to learn so much from him.

alysem said...

I agree with Elizabeth when she says that writing about love is not that difficult you just have to look inside of yourself and see what you outlook on love is. And what "love" means to you.

alysem said...

I agree with Gabriel when she says that Shakespeare was a very talented man.

alysem said...

I agree with Stacey when she wonders how Shakespeare was able to manage being an actor and a playwright.

I found it interesting, and a bit ironic, that Shakespeare didn't love his own wife and yet one of his works, Romeo and Juliet, seems to capture the essence of love completely. It's interesting to me because it makes me wonder how he found out so much about love. Maybe he was in love while he worked away from his wife, like in the movie Shakespeare in Love. Or perhaps he had a childhood sweetheart who was, like Juliet, forbidden to him. I suppose we will never know.

I think that if I lived in Shakespeare's time, i would have wanted to be one of his friends. He seems like an interesting person and he seems like he has a lot to say. I think i would have liked to be one of those friends he did special performances for while the theaters were closed due to the Black Death outbreak.

RESPONSES:
I agree with stacey that one reason i would have liked to be Shakespeare's friend is that i would get to know and understand firsthand the mystery that is Shakespeare. Then again, I wouldn't think much of it if i were his friend, would I?

I also agree with victoria that one of the more interesting things about Shakespeare was that he was lucky enough to be successful at what he loved, and that he attained fame in his lifetime, and not centuries later like many of the great legends we know of today.

I also agree with alexis that one interesting thing about Shakespeare is his skill with words. I can't even imagine how incredible his intelligence must have been to be able to be so articulate and to even make up his own words. If I had even half his skill, I'd be set for an awesome writing career. ^-^

The most interesting thing that I learned about shakespeare was how his life affected much of what he wrote. If he was going though some times of hardships his plays would reflect that. I also loved the way he could make the simplest thing so beautiful almost as if u could feel it you're self.

I wouldn't really want to be his friend but just to mabey work with him or just spend sometime with him. If I was his friend our relationship would be hard from all the stress he would have. That is how I would feel.

MichaelR said...

I agree with what stefanie said about his love. How could he express such love when he didn't.

tiffanyc said...

One fact I found most interesting was the one that his plays were used for the king many times. It was used for the queen also. He was part of the group The Lords men. I thought it was sad that his only son who could inheret his fortune passed away at such a young age.

yes i would like him to be one of my friends. He was a very talented man who could be a great asset. It would be cool to know how he thought and went about life. It would be interesting to see how his imagination contributed to his plays.

i agree with stephanie when she talks about how shakespere wasnt loyal to his wife.

alexis is right when she mentions shakesperes way with words and making everything sound so magnificant.

don is right when he says shakespere is a passionate person.

I think the most interesting thing about Shakespeare was the fact that he wrote so many plays. Some people's hands start throbbing with pain after writing a simple paragraph. Shakespeare must have had a lot of time on hands to have written so many great plays, poems, and sonnets.
If I lived in that time, I would definitely want Shakespeare to be one of my friends. Many of my friends are very intellegent people, so I think it would be strange if one of the most brilliant playwrites ever known wasn't to my liking. I think we would've made great friends if I lived in his time.

I agree with Victoria when she says that Shakespeare was praised as a playwrite while he was alive. His work wasn't first recognized after his death, but rather during his lifetime.
I agree with Alexis that Shakespeare had a great deal of skill and technique when it came to words.
I agree with Don. Shakespeare was very passionate with his work and he was a genius if there ever was one.
