In Act I, Romeo and Juliet fall in love at first sight. Do you believe in love at first sight?
In Act I, Scene V, the partygoers at the Capulet residence engage in a dance called the measure. It is a slow dance with dignified movements. If you were presenting a modern version of Romeo and Juliet, what dance would you choose for the Capulet party? In Act I, Romeo and Juliet fall in love at first sight. Do you believe in love at first sight?

I really don't believe in love at first sight. I believe in attraction at first sight but not love. You can't really love someone if you don't even know their name. You can only truly be in love if you actually know the person. You can be attracted to the person but not even Romeo and Juliet aren't even truly in love yet. They are just attracted to each other.
As for the dance I think I might go Latin style with it. The Capulets will be the Gonzalez family and the Montagues will be the Rodriguez family. Juliet's family will be dancing to a tango and that is when Romeo and Juliet meet for the first time in this very sensual dance.
I do in fact believe in love at first sight. I believe it is very uncommon, but I believe it is possible. I think humans are able to feel such an overpowering feeling that makes them want to take care of and spend the rest of their lives with a person. I find that sometimes, people lie and say they are in love at first sight, but the ones who are true to their feelings, live forever in happiness.
I think that the Waltz would be a perfect dance in Act I, Scene V. I think it would show tensity and romance through the dancers. I also think it is a rather slow, yet brilliant dance. This would truly set the mood for the romance of Romeo and Juliet.
I Disagree with Elizabeth. I do believe that love at first sight is possible. It is just very uncommon.
I agree with Elizabeth. I think that Latin dances are really intense and heated. They are very romantic and can set the mood for love.
I agree with Elizabeth. I think that Juliet should be found dancing first with her family. She would be doing a dance such as the tango, which would catch Romeo's eyes. This will interest Romeo even more of Juliet, and make Juliet seem almost irrisistable to him.
I do not believe in love at first sight. I think that in order to love someone you must get to know them and spend time with them. You might be attracted to someone as soon as you first see them, but not in love.
A modern dance that Romeo and Juliet would dance would be the tango. I believe that this is the perfect dance for the occasion. Whenever I read the dancing scene, I picture them dancing the tango.
responses:
1. I agree with Elizabeth because I do not believe in love at first sight.
2. I agree with Elizabeth that the tango would be a very good dance.
3. I disagree with Don because I do not believe in love at first sight.
I do not believe in love at first sight. Love, I think, is a feeling of compassion, affection and care. At first sight, lust is more appropriate. Once you have spent time with the person love is possible, not within sight of their eyes. However I do think when your in love with someone there is nothing better than to look into their eyes.
I would definitely go with the tango! It would make the meeting much more passion and intimate with its ,as Elizabeth says, sensual moves. The tango encompasses the idea for lust at first sight, but in this case love.
Elizabeth- I totally agree with your idea of the tango, it's perfect!
Elizabeth- I also agree with you when you say you can only be strongly attracted to someone at first sight.
Donny- I disagree with you..I don't think love at first sight is possible. But I do admire you for thinking its possible. Also, irresistible is the perfect way to describe Juliet if Romeo found her dancing the tango.
I don't think you can believe or not believe in love at first sight until you experience it. I mean, how else would you know? Saying that, I'm still more on the "i dont believe in love at first sight" side.
Besides that, I believe more in an infatuation at first sight. We can all agree because it's happened to most of us. I think it's more common to be infatuated at first sight than in love. Love is a mystery. It can be hard to find, or some people can be lucky and it's right under their noses. Either way, it takes time to love someone. You can't love someone without knowing anything about them.
Have any of you seen Dirty Dancing Havana Nights? If you have, then that's exactly how I picture the dance to be. Like the Latin Ballroom dance they use, the dance would be very modern but yet very intimate and passionate. I think it's perfect :)
i cant say i believe in love at first sight, but i would feel foolish to say tht i dont. its hard for someone who has never loved let alone to experience love at first sight understand and believe it. so i will say that there is love at first sight i jus dont believe its for everyone. i hope this is easy to understand because its hard for me to explain. its easy to say love at first sight doesnt exist or that you dont believe in it when youve never even loved. to find out you shold ask someone that has loved or claims that their love was love at first sight.
if i could choose any dance for the capulets party i would choose like a walts or a tango or maybe even a latin style dance. something very sensual like elizabeth said that way it would make sense with the story.
1. i agree with elizabeth in choosing a sensual dance for when romeo and juliet meet.
2. i disagree with elizabeth and anyone else that doesnt believe at first sight.i think it is ignorant for people to say that they dont believe in something theyve never witnessed. its easy to say something like that looking from the outside in, but when u meet someone and u know deep inside your heart that your meant to be with them and something just tells you youre meant to be.... i havent had this experience but i have a feeling its amazing.
3. i agree with don woody in saying it is very uncommon. dont worry woody i got your back... haha
I don't really believe in love at first sight. Like Elizabeth said, it's just an attraction. It seems to me that Romeo and Juliet really just like how the other looks physically and then fall head over heels for each other when they realize that the other is good to them and loves them back. I don't say this to take away from the play. Also, i haven't actually ruled out the possibility of love at first sight, but it is the kind of concept that you can't believe unless you have felt it firsthand, and i haven't.
If i were choosing a dance for a modern reproduction of Romeo & Juliet, i think i would choose a more formal type dance that would be found in those upperclass formal parties. I might choose the Waltz, or perhaps a latin dance, such as the salsa or the tango. It would more likely be one of the Latin dances, they are much more lively and romantic that some other dances.
RESPONSES:
As i mentioned above, I agree with Elizabeth that Romeo and Juliet were really just attracted to each other.
I agree and disagree with Don when he said that people lie and say that they fell in love at first sight. I'm sure some people have lied about this before, but i think that most of the people who say this really believe it, at least for a while.
Lastly, I agree with Gabriel and Elizabeth and probably many others that you can't really be in love with a person without getting to know them first.
I dont believe in love at first sight .I do believe that some one can be gorgrous ;) but that is no where near love. I believe that you can fall in love with a persons PERSONALITY ,which happens many time in life . Love is developed after many years and sometimes longer.
I would do the woo-tang .( NO JUST-KIDDING hehe)If i were in the capulets party i would definitely want to impress but if it were modernized or like in my family i think i would dance salsa with a girl but very good salsa like rueda. Its a very organized dance that looks very nice if u know it well.
response:I agree with elizabeth because she is right about the attraction with Romeo and Juliet.
response:I agree with daniel ,I like the fact that he chose the tango to dance .
response: I agree with Khriss in the fact that its more an infatuation than love.
NO! I do not believe in love at first sight. How can one be so sure that they love someone or are in love with that person if they barely even know the person, I don definitely believe that one can be attracted to someone the minute they meet.
I think my kind of dance would be a tango. Even though I don't know how to dance a tango it doesn't mean I can't learn how to dance it at that very moment. And hey every one say the tango is a dance with passion so it could definetly work out.
1. I agree with Elizabeth when she says that you can't love someone if you don't know them.
2.I agree with Stef when she says love at first sight is more like lust.
3.I disagree with Don how can you be so sure that you love someone and that they are the right person if you only saw them?
If I had to pick a more modern dance for Romeo and Juliet, I would pick Tango. It's an appropiate dance and it's very nice to watch. I saw it in a movie between a couple and I loved it. It seems romantic and just right for the play.
I don't really believe in love at first sight. I don't think that two people can fall in love just by seeing each other. You have to get to know each other. However, I do believe that people maybe be attracted to each other or interested.
1. I agree with Elizabeth, I also would use the tango for the first meeting between Romeo and Juliet.
2. I agree with Gabriel. I also do not believe in love at first sight. I don't think it is actually possible.
3. I disagree with Don. I don't think that people can fall in love at first sight.
After reading Christine's and Eddie's comment, I agree with them. No one is to say they believe in it or not, unless you experience it yourself.
Marissa...the woo-tang is not so much a good idea... haha
Yes, i do believe in love at first sight. It is uncommon, and people dont normally talk about it or feel that way, but you have to first experience it to actually know.
If i was presenting a modern version of the dance, i would defenitly choose the Tango. It is a very slow, but at the same time fast paced dance. It is very sensual, and that heats up the romance that they have.
I like Elizabeth's idea of going for a Latin style of dancing. The tango is a great example.
I also like Don's idea of using the Waltz because it shows the tensity and romance between the lovers on the dance floor.
I agree with Stefanie that the tango would make the meeting much more passionate and intimate.
I think love at first sight really depends on the people involved. I mean, with Romeo and Juliet there's no doubt about it but i think in the modern world its a lot harder. I mean, you meet people and talk to people for months without ever seeing the person. And how can you fall in love with someone when you don't know anything about that person? So really i guess i dont believe in love at first sight.
I would definately use a very sensual dance. Like a tango or a paso doble. Something that would allow you to see the intimate relationship these two people feel for each other even though they just met. A "passionate" dance would allow the mood to show more, making a more dramatic effect.
I'm one of the few people that DOES believe in love at first sight. I don't think it's a very common thing but I still do believe that it can happen. I think it's possible for two people to look at each other and know that that person is the one. Of course, this sort of thing doesn't happen often but it's not impossible. :)
If I had to choose a dance for a modern version of the Capulet party, I would choose the tango. The tango is one of those intense dances that I think would match up perfectly for this story. Romeo and Juliet would be able to connect so well while dancing the tango.
RESPONSES:
I agree with Don that I also do believe in love at first sight and that it is a very uncommon thing.
I like that Daisy chose the Waltz as one of the dances she would use. It's a very romantic dance and it ties into the story well.
I agree with Melissa A that love at first sight is uncommon but it can still happen and you have to experience it first to know if it's true.
For anyone that believes in love at first sight I truly disagree with that. Yes, I love the idea that someone can fall in love that quickly but it's just something that I'm sure a writer long time ago thought it would be cute and wrote down a story about it.
I love how almost everyone put the tango as one of their dances. It truly is a sensual dance and when you watch a couple dance it, it seems really intimate and it would be the perfect dance for Romeo and Juliet.
In a weird way I do agree with Khris and Eddie when they say that we have never experienced love at first sight or witnessed it so how do we know. From what I know and what I have seen I don't believe in love at first sight but maybe if I am the one to fall in love at first sight my view will change.
RESPONSES:
1. I have to disagree with anyone who believes in love at first sight. I'm sorry but its kind of ridiculous that anyone could fall in love by just seeing someone's face.
2. I agree with everyone who put the tango as the dance. It really changes the whole mod of the play. :)
3.I agree with stefanie when she says that love is a feeling of compassion, affection and care. At first sight, lust is more appropriate.
In my opinion, I do not believe in love at first sight. Sometimes what you see or read about love at first sight is not true in the real. You have to know the person to get to the love at first sight concept.
If I was to choose a modern version of the Capulet ball, I would go with ballroom dancing. It is easy to learn, and it would help make it easier for them to meet, since in ballroom dancing, you switch partners.
I disagree with Don. Love at firs sight is very uncommon in life. And if it were to happen, it would not last.
I agree with Elizabeth. Going Latin style at the Capulet ball is very easy to be attracted to someone when they do Latin dance.
I also agree with Stefanie because when you feel like you see love, it is actually just lust.
I don't believe at love at first sight. I believe that it is only based on looks; if you love someone you don't even now. If i were to pick a dignified modern dance i would picked tango. I'd pick tango because you dance it correctly there must be a passion between the two who are dancing. It is a communication through dance.
Response:
1. I agree with Elizabeth, how can you love someone who you don't even know there name.
2. I disagree with Don, you are falling for looks at the moment of first sight.
3. I agree with Gabriel about the tango.
I don't believe in love at first sight, like Stef, I believe in lust at first sight or like christine said you can be infatuated. I don't think you can love someone with out really knowing them. But I do believe that you can meet someone and know that you and that person are just ment to be, with out necassarily loving them until you really know them.
If I had to pick a dance I would probably pick something like ballroom-ish like the waltz like how they did in The Princess Diaries.
----------------------------------
I really like what Eddie and how he said that love at first sight isn't for everyone but it could be, I never really thought of it that way and its true because when you first meet someone you can be like "my gosh i really don't like them" and turn out loving them after a while.
and I also like that the majority of the people picked the tango, thats an awesome idea because that dance is infact very sensual like elizabeth said
(:
responses:
marissa- totally the wu-tang! i think that would be awesome :D
but nah, i agree on ur idea that someone can fall in love with a person's personality because that's what usually happens.
eddie- i agree with you, because it's like my opinion: you can't say you believe or don't believe in love at first sight if you haven't experienced it.
i then disagree with everyone who doesn't believe in love at first sight for the same reason eddie has. don't say you don't believe in it if you don't know for sure. the only way to know for sure is to experience it.
I don't believe in love at first site. I think you love someone by their inside not their outside appearance. Your personality should be the most important thing. If you are very attractive, you may be extremely shallow.
If I had to choose a dance for them to fall in love in, it would be the rumba. Its a slower version of the samba that tells a story. The story is mostly of a pair of lovers and the dance is mostly romantic.
I agree with Elizabeth that attraction is probably what a person feels at first sight.
I agree with Khriss that maybe what we think could all just be in our heads. You can never know unless you experience it. If we think one thing, when we experience it, it might be different.
I agree with most of almost everyone that the tango and waltz would be very good choices for the party.
i dont believe in love at first sight. i believe that in order to love someone, you must get to know them first. however, i believe in lust at first sight.
the dance that i would choose is a sweet sixteen with a theme of masqurade.if it's a masquerade, the story line wouldn't change. the only thing that owuld change is the way they speak and the occation.
i find elizabteh's chose of dane interesting. it is like a cinderella story mixed with romeo and juliet.
i disagree with don because i believ lust and love are not the smae thing annd "love" at first sight is actually lust at first sight
i lastly agree with most of the class when they say the tango or latin ance would be a good modern dance for romeo and juliet because latin dances usually need alot of chemistry to work
For the most part, I don't believe in love at first sight. Of course, I wouldn't know a thing about love so my opinion is always up for debate. From what I understand about love, however, love isn't something that just jumps onto your front doorstep. I believe that love is just a very high level of trust. I know that sounds a bit negative, but that't the only way I know how to put my thoughts into words.
I think that a good modern dance for the Capulets' party would be the Tango. (Shocker, isn't it? Haha.) The Tango is a very passionate dance and it very well ties in with the way that Romeo and Juliet meet. Much like the way the dance is, well, danced, as the couple's eyes first meet, they simply can't keep away from each other.
I agree with Brontie when she says that a masquerade would be a good modern dance for this story. The dance explains how Romeo and Juliet meet perfectly.
I agree with Eddie in the fact that you can't say that love at first sight isn't real if you haven't experienced love for yourself.
I agree with everybody that said love at first sight is very uncommon but it is possible.
I dont believe in love at first sight. I call love in first sight, fools love because love at first sight means to me that the opposite sex is attracted due to physical apearance. True love i think takes time and development, not just a spontaneous moment.
As for the dance i believe in a oriental style dance. The Capulets will be the Wong family and the Montagues will be the Chang family. Juliets family will be doing a formal slow dance, and that is when Romeo and Juliet eyes meet.
Responses:
I dont agree with donw because he believes in love at first sight.
I agree with Elizabeth because she states that she doesnt believe love at first sight.
I agree with Gabriel because he states that in order to love someone, you must get to know them.
